Deveree Stewart, MSc, MPH, BSc (Hons), RM, RN

Mrs. Deveree Stewart is an accomplished nurse-midwife, educator, and academic leader with more than thirty years of experience in nursing and over twenty years of practice as a midwife. She brings this specialized leadership background to her role as a Council Member, where she serves as Chair of the Curriculum Committee and Co-Chair of the Audit Committee, contributing directly to the Council’s regulatory, quality assurance, educational, governance, and financial management functions.

She currently serves as a Lecturer in the School of Nursing, Faculty of Medical Sciences, at The University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona Campus. At UWI, Mrs. Stewart has led the development and review of both undergraduate and postgraduate midwifery curricula, while enhancing the delivery of the Post-RN Online Programme. Her academic qualifications include a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Midwifery from Anglia Ruskin University, a Master of Science in Midwifery Education from the University of Salford, and a Master of Public Health from the University of Essex, alongside postgraduate credentials in Higher Education Teaching and Midwifery Supervision.  In furtherance of her studies, she has focused her PhD research on strengthening midwifery education and leadership across the Caribbean.

On national, regional, and international stages, Mrs. Stewart provides vital advocacy and leadership. She serves as the Practising Midwife Representative on the International Confederation of Midwives Regional Committee, President of the Caribbean Regional Midwives Association, and Education Liaison with the Women’s Health Network. Through these roles, she actively advances midwifery education and leadership development that strengthen the profession throughout the Caribbean. An active member of the Jamaica Midwives Association, she remains deeply committed to policy advocacy, professional regulation, and the improvement of maternal and newborn health outcomes throughout the region.
